FAQ
Here's a few commonly asked questions in different areas of our work.

Before Signing
Until ads are live we will not know. However, we have a budget calculator that we can send you before that is based on industry benchmarks that can give you a guesstimate to go off.
No, they are not as effective as Meta platforms. They are also more expensive, and users typically use them from real time shopping as opposed to new brands.
They're ads that run when the campaign is live and direct traffic to your KS/IGG page with the goal of increasing backers.
We typically recommend that your budget should be between 10% - 20% of your funding goal, excluding fees. However, we have a budget calculator that can help you guesstimate a budget based on industry benchmarks.
We recommend you plan a 50/50 split between budgets, with room for movement. If pre launch isn’t as successful as you’d hoped, pulling back on Pre Launch budget and putting into live ads budget can be done, splitting budgets 40/60.
No, as from our experience it’s Pre Launch that drives revenue. We can however recommend relevant agencies if that's an avenue you wish to explore.
We can perform basic edits to fit assets to what we need them for, but you will need to provide us with all assets.
If we work together, we send you the invoice and onboarding forms to complete (to provide access and assets, etc.).
Depending on how quickly you complete those, once it's all completed, we take 1 week for setup.
You then provide feedback - the quicker your feedback is provided the quicker the turnaround.
Then it can take up to a week for us to implement your feedback.
And then we go live with pre-launch. From there we collect leads for 4 weeks (or more depending on your plan with Nuuk) before the campaign goes live.
If we design the KS/IGG page, we need to start the process after week 1 of pre-launch being live, so that we have at least 3 weeks to complete it.
Onboarding
When you complete the onboarding process, there is a video that explains this fully for you and guides you through the process.
No! We need access to your Ads Manager account before your contract starts. This is so we can check the status of FB ad account and assess whether or not there is a daily spend limit, and plan accordingly.
Our onboarding process will help you with this. However, we recommend you use “GET” or “SIGNUP” as a subdomain. If you don’t have a website, we are able to use your regular domain if you would prefer.
Shopify Basic is fine for our purposes.
You will need the Mailchimp Standard plan.
If you want to redirect traffic from the subdomain you should notify you account manager so it doesn't mess with our conversion rates
They place a deposit and they will receive extra perks
No
Deposit is refundable; but the deposit is for the extras and early access - this is on the client side to manage - refund through Shopify is automatic.
Our suggestions are: Priority shipping, merch, limited edition products, exclusive colours, accessories, add ons, free product.
Yes, we should separate Mailchimp audiences.
When you complete onboarding and pay your invoice we will schedule a kick off call and that will mark the start of the contract.
Setup & Feedback
These need to be provided during the onboarding process - if they are provided after this will come at an extra fee. We can use any google font on the website, email marketing has limited availability, ads we can use custom fonts if provided.
Markup - we share this
Once
This will depend on the package - in terms of design and templates we use best practices so its unlikely we would change the whole approach
Setup takes a week, then feedback will depend on how quickly the feedback is given to us, then a week for us to implement the feedback
FB Ads
If your account is new there is typically a spend limit on the account. Meta works on a trust based system, so the quicker we get spend going through on your account the better. You must keep up regular payments and it is very important that you do not miss a payment as this can negatively affect your account trust, therefore taking Meta longer to lift the spend limit.
This can vary depending on multiple factors; if you miss a payment this can revert your account trust back to day one. You can also verify your ad account with Meta which will contribute to getting your account spend limit lifted. However, there is no predetermined length of time that this can take.
Meta no longer tracks IOS due to Apple privacy settings, so there will be discrepancies between the two reports. This is why we do our own reporting so we can more accurately see data.
Typically no, but this depends on the performance of ads. We start with all platforms and then optimize from there. If we see drastically better performance on one platform over the other, we can optimize for that platform specifically.
No, this is because ads and audiences cross compete on the platform. This will drive up the cost of all ads running.
No.
Landing Pages
No. Placing a video on a landing page slows the page load times and we need this to be as quick as possible to maximise conversions.
No. We use our own proprietary systems here at NUUK and cannot give you access to them.
No. Unless this has been previously discussed and agreed with us before signing your contract.
Please include all assets you wish us to use in your onboarding. Then we can assess them and see if they are fit for purpose, and we can optimise them accordingly.
Our layout is specific to maximise conversions, however you can suggest changes to copy and images.
No. The purpose of a landing page is to convert people into list subscribers, not social followers. Adding links where potential subscribers can click off the landing page drops conversion rates.
No. Adding links where potential subscribers can click off the landing page drops conversion rates.
Email Marketing
All benchmark reporting is done in your weekly calls.
Not as part of our pre launch strategy. We do however offer this as an extra service.
No, this is a breach of contract. You can however suggest edits, then we can discuss them and if we deem edits necessary we can change them.
This will be viewable in your proposal.
Kickstarter Page
Up to 3 business days.
ASAP. Your page doesn’t need to be finished, but it needs to have enough info for Kickstarter to see it’s a real product that is in line with their T&Cs. See more
Nope! We can’t send it for review on our end.
We are happy to provide guidance for KS perks, however final perk strategy should be decided by the client.
It’s important to consider your minimum order value, as well making sure your goal isn’t TOO ambitious. We generally recommend having an internal and external goal. Your external goal on Kickstarter needs to be low enough that you can get funded in the first 48 hours, however big enough that you can actually produce the rewards for backers.
You can charge shipping on Kickstarter (with separate costs for each country too), OR you can charge shipping post campaign through a service such as BackerKit or otherwise. Each option is valid - sometimes you can get lower shipping costs depending on the amount of orders, which is why makers will charge post-campaign, once they know how many units they need to produce etc. If you are charging shipping post campaign, it’s important to be transparent on your campaign page with estimated shipping costs, and also once the campaign has finished.
Nuuk can’t provide any advice on VAT rules in your country or shipping countries. Please do the research yourself or contact a legal rep.
You can’t really choose - whatever country your account is based in will be the campaign’s currency. However perk costs will automatically convert to the viewers country. (For example, you might set a $20 perk, but in the UK we’d see it as £16 (converted from $20)). Most KS users are from the US though, so we do advise in your perk section, to visually show USD.
Wherever you are!
While the campaign is live, you should update more frequently to drive pledges and celebrate milestones. Once the campaign is over, we’d recommend at least twice a month to keep your backers informed.
As often as possible really! Kickstarter notices campaigns with high engagement, so replying to all comments if possible will do you favours in getting featured.
Yes! Having add ons can increase your average order value, so try to think of some cool stuff that will entice backers.
By having a well designed page and a unique product. You need to stand out from the crowd a bit - Project we love is picked by Kickstarter staff.
Market Fit Test
2 weeks providing there are no ad budget spend limits on your account.
Due to the nature of the test you do not get a weekly report. You will however receive a report after the MFT is finished.
We test audiences, ad creatives, ad copy as well as landing page design, strategy and emails.
After the tests have finished and we have collated the data for you.
No, we do not optimise and change things during the MFT.
Yes, after the tests have been completed.
Customer Survey
Of course - we will also advise on the best questions to ask.
Some of our questions can be changed, but some will need to stay the same based on our best practices.
No, unless previously discussed and agreed upon with us.
Yes. We can discuss the results on weekly calls, and after the MFT/Pre Launch has finished we can send you the raw data file will all results in.
There should be no more than 7 total questions in the survey.
No.
Referral Competition
The primary goal of a referral competition is for your current subscribers to spread the word through social sharing, email referring and campaign / social media follows. The competition is based on a point system where each action is rewarded based on its importance (referring via email gives your subscriber more points then following you on social media, etc).
The person with the highest score would be eligible for the reward offered, providing they adhere to any T&Cs there may be in place.
It depends - if the free product is to be an accessory (which compliments your product) then the answer is ‘yes’. If it’s the core product itself, we’d advise against it.
By offering your product free you may be lowering the incentive a launch price should be. It can also lower one’s commitment to the price they ‘assigned’ in their mind to the product when signing up, making their purchase intention weaker if they don’t end up winning the item for free.
We’d always recommend for the rewards to be product relevant and incentivising to the type of persona targeted.
Let’s say your ‘core’ product is a mini dishwasher with a $299 price tag. Your rewards would therefore have to be of a value to someone willing to commit to this price point AND stay product relevant - you could offer them a home decor voucher (grab new shiny plates and get them sparkling clean in your new mini dishwasher), or food delivery vouchers (free dinner and cleaning on us) providing they carry serious monetary value ($50 up).
Social Media
We respond to comments at least every 24h but if there is a comment you see that is more technical, or if you have a detailed answer then it’s fine to reply to those.
You can create draft posts and we will look over them and potentially make changes so that they fit our best practices.
You can add comments to a post for us to edit, or if there are very minor edits you can change those if agreed previously.
The control of the group goes to the client. The group can be used to update VIPs about how the project is going and regularly communicate with them to keep them excited about the project.
For the VIP group, up to 3 posts a week. For organic posts, up to 2 posts a week.
Yes, all of the posts will be put into a spreadsheet with the date they’ll be posted. You’ll have access to this spreadsheet.
For the VIP group only Facebook. For organic, Instagram & Facebook.
Yes, we will use assets provided in the onboarding process. However, it’s best to use behind-the-scenes content for the VIP group. This can include more personal content about the team or exclusive information about the production process.
Yes, we’re open to suggestions and may use a few if they fit with best practices.
Lots of updates about how the campaign is going (e.g. ‘project we love’, fully funded, stretch goals met). After the campaign you can continue to post updates about production, shipping & any other details about the product/company.
